When I get a marquee wedding or petal pole brief it really makes my heart sing. It is such a blank canvas that I can get carried away. Now because it is a blank canvas it really doesn’t mean you have to fill it with colour. Keeping it elegant and chic really does create a massive impact.
What makes marquee magic, simple chic and elegant you may ask? well colours and textures always help.
I was lucky enough to floral this fabulous petal pole marquee, which a classic cream and green colour scheme.
We decided to keep the main installation simple with garlands of greenery. Giving a contrast of colour against the white tent ceiling.
Working with a mixture of tables, some round and some long we were able to mix up the table designs. This helped give a mixture of depth and design to the petal pole. It helped to keep the look fresh.
This was a late spring wedding, so we got lucky with the heat. It was just the perfect temperature for the flowers. If it’s too hot, then the flowers will wilt and if its frosty then the flowers will freeze and die. It really is a balancing act with marquees.
Textures make all the difference.
I mixed the greens of foliage’s from dark forest greens to paler greens, this complimented perfectly with the olive-coloured tablecloths. Adding lots of candles to give some soft ambience and glow as day turns to night. Using beautiful white ceramic footed bowls on the round tables and then long and low shallow trays on the long tables giving two luxury designs.
The top table was an asymmetric design. Using the top edge of the table and the floor to create an interesting and unique design, opulent foliage’s helped to give the design a free-flowing natural feel. Placing a few simple stems of flowers to tie in with the guest tables.
Don’t forget the entrance!
The entrance to the petal pole marquee had some simple but effective floral columns. This really helped to welcome guests in and guide them to the wedding breakfast. Finally, I placed an opulent amount of foliage in the dresser for the cake and dessert to have their own little spotlight.

Believe me, I know it can be daunting planning a wedding. Let’s face it, it’s probably something you haven’t done before. I know it can be a minefield choosing from multiple florists, but I think if you do a little planning and research it can become a whole lot easier and will definitely take the pressure off.
Firstly, no matter how much you try to convince yourself, no two florists are the same, no two quotes will be the same just like no two couples are the same. Everyone has different requirements and tastes; this is what makes us all different. We don’t all have the same likes and dislikes and that is what makes us all unique. This is something to remember when sourcing your preferred florist. Just like you as a couple, no florists are the same, we are all unique and wildly creative. You will find you can ask two florists for a quote and they may be vastly different in price.
Why is this?
Well, there are many factors, ranging from experience to how abundant (full of flowers) they are visualising and making each design.
The list goes on and on. It really can be a confusing space when you first start planning.
Sometimes I get brides that want a complete copy and paste wedding from Pinterest. Don’t get me wrong some of the pictures are beautiful and I am happy to use them as a creative inspiration source, but I am not a copy and paste florist. You are paying me to be creative and come up with designs that represent you as a couple. This is what makes me different; I work with you not for you. I totally understand that emailing florists and asking for price lists is what is normally done but it’s not comparable. You don’t know what’s behind the prices. Let me tell you that booking the cheapest isn’t always the best option.
So, what should you spend on your wedding flowers? Ask yourself, what part of my wedding is the most important to me? Is flowers a big part? Is it the photographer? Is it the food? Dress? If you are wanting floral installations, such as staircase, arches, fireplaces or hanging designs then you will need more budget. Asking 8 people to be your bridesmaids may seem a good idea, but this is all extra flower cost if you are providing a bouquet for each of them. Normally 10% of the whole wedding budget plus travel and expenses is what is normally suggested for total floral spend. Again, this is just a ballpark figure it could be more if you want to go big or it could be less if you want more simplistic floral designs.
This may seem a lot to some couples and not to others, everything is down to personal preference. There is a florist out there for every couple. Make sure you spend your time following florists on socials who you feel you could have a good connection with.

I had the pleasure of providing florals for the most beautiful couple Mark and Sarah. With a muted colour palette for an early summer wedding, it was a dream day.
Using toffee, champagne, pale pinks, corals and creams the whole look pulled together beautifully with the bridesmaid’s mis matched coloured dresses.
I worked with Mark and Sarah to tie the floral colours in with the groomsmen suits, bridesmaids, and different aspects of the venue itself.
Lots of details were added by the couple themselves, saving lots of Gin bottles to line the tables and different flowers were added to give a simple guest table design.
The bride worked on special signage to line the aisle and picked her very own pampas grass to add a finishing touch.
Whilst working with Mark and Sarah it was clear they wanted to create impact and statement flower designs using the fireplace and stunning doorway. We decided to do a mantle design that cascaded down one side all the way to the floor. It was the showstopper piece for the main ceremony.
The flowers included Roses, Dahlia, Carnations, big headed Chrysanthemums, Cow Parsley, Wax Flower, Astilbe, Achillea, and Eustoma. We also used a selection of foliage to give the wild, free flowing design.
We mirrored this on the doorway with a stunning broken arch design to welcome the guests into the ceremony space. This then made the perfect backdrop for the confetti throw.
Willow Marsh farm held the perfect getting ready cottage for Sarah and her maids, Sarah decided to have some simple single stemmed flowers added to her hair. The design and added the perfect finishing touch once ready in her bridal dress and ready to go armed with her bouquet.
I can’t wait to go back, The venue is truly stunning.
